Why: In response to the recent landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court (Washington, D.C., et. al. vs. Heller) affirming the Second Amendment as an individual right and ruling the District's gun-ban unconstitutional, the National Shooting Sports Foundation is placing full-page advertisements in major D.C. newspapers to inform District residents that NSSF provides educational resources that promote safe and responsible gun ownership and that First Shots shooting seminars will be scheduled at locations just outside the District in Virginia and Maryland to provide District residents with an introduction on how to safely use and store handguns.

Additional Info:

First Shots Seminars: The NSSF First Shots seminars emphasizes firearm safety for beginner handgun shooters. Participants learn about safe handling and storage of firearms, state and local permitting laws, how to purchase a handgun, where to find help in choosing the best handgun for their needs and where to find opportunities for advanced education and training.

First Shots seminars involve classroom and supervised live-fire instruction and are held at local gun clubs.
