Becoming an Outdoors-Woman, California is Offering a Soapstone Carving and Birding Workshop
September 12-14, 2008 at the Sacramento Wildlife Refuge, near Willows, California
Do you feature yourself as an artist, a sculptor? Becoming an Outdoors-Woman is offering this unique workshop to test your talents. Bill Peters, renowned wildlife artist, will show you how to release the loon and the seal from the square piece of stone. No two will be alike. We will be using Soapstone which is available in many different colors and textures. It polishes to a smooth finish and scratches leave a white mark which makes it easy to texture. You will carve a loon and a seal and you will have your choice of carving some smaller sculptures for jewelry.
And, after we've spent the day chiseling, carving, sanding and polishing, we will take a walk and relax our hands and arms and do some bird watching. September is a perfect time to bird watch on the Refuge. Bill is also an experienced ornithologist. Binoculars will be provided.
The workshop starts at 12:00 noon on Friday and ends Sunday after lunch. Saturday lunch, snacks and water will be provided. You are responsible for all other meals and lodging. Here is a link to Willows lodging and restaurants.
The cost of the workshop is $200 per person. All equipment and supplies are included. After your registration is received you will receive an e-mail confirmation and then approximately two weeks prior to the workshop you will receive an e-mail (or snail mail packet) with all of the information you will need - an agenda, directions to the Wildlife Refuge, and a suggested list of items to bring with you.
